Garner EMS & Rescue Squad can now accept donations safely on line via Paypal.  The Garner EMS & Rescue Squad is a non profit 501 (C)(3) organization that relies on your tax deductible donations to help support our services.  It is with the help of the generous community that we serve,  we can continue to provide you the best EMS and rescue services possible. 

To make a donation, click "Donation" on the left side of the web page and follow the instructions on the Paypal Logo.  Once a donation is made, either by Paypal or mail in check, we will forward you a receipt.  Thank you for supporting the Garner EMS & Rescue Squad.


 
Support the Fight! Give Blood

The Garner EMS & Rescue Squad and the Garner United Methodist Church join forces for an upcoming blood drive.  This event will be held at the Garner United Methodist Church on Methodist Drive in Garner on Friday 3/26/2010 from 12 noon through 5:00pm. 

The Garner United Methodist Church will be selling Chicken BBQ dinners from 11:00 am through 7:00pm to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Belk's Charity Day Fundraiser Now Underway

The Belks Store and the Garner EMS & Rescue Squad have joined forces to raise money for this organization.  The Belks Charity Sale will be held on Saturday 5/1/2010 from 0600 to 1000 hours.  Members will be selling $5.00 tickets to this event between now and then.  Purchasers will donate $5.00 to the Garner EMS & Rescue Squad and then receive a ticket to the store.  This ticket entitles the holder to $5.00 off of their first purchase.  For the first 100 customers through the door, they will receive free Belk cards up to $1,000 in value.  During the time of this sale, reductions on many items in the store are available.

To purchase a ticket to this event, please contact Chief Frederick or Division Chief Haywood.  Members are also encouraged to help sell these tickets in advance.


 
   
   
Cadet Fundraiser Scheduled for March 29th

The Garner EMS & Rescue Squad's Cadet Program is having a "Join us for Dinner" on Monday 3/29/2010 from 1800 through 2100 hours.,  This event will be located at the Buffalo Wild Wings at the White Oak Shopping Center.  A flier is available at the Garner Main Station.  For everyone who presents the flier to their server, Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 20% of the food bill to the Cadet Program.

Garner Responds to Raleigh's Mass Casualty Incident

At approximately 0930 hours, Garner EMS81 and EMS83 were dispatched to the Downtown Sheraton located at 421 S. Salisbury Street in Raleigh in response to an EMS Alarm 3. The initial dispatched was for a patient with respiratory distress.  The first arriving crews learned of approximately 150 juveniles complaining of stomach and intestinal problems.  With this information, the 3rd Alarm Medical Response was requested and generated and additional 12 paramedic ambulances, 3 District Chief's, and additional Advance Paramedic Paramedic, EMS Truck 1 and the Medical Director.

The Raleigh Fire Department quickly concluded that this was not a HazMat incident and command was transferred to EMS.  EMS Command determined that it was appropriate to treat in place.  By mid afternoon, the last of the people were seen.  Approximately 150 medical evaluations had been performed.  30 people were treated and 5 were transported.

Units on scene included Garner EMS81, EMS83, Wake County EMS1, EMS3, EMS4, EMS8, EMS11, EMS15, EMS16, EMS33, Truck 1, Medic 93, Medic 94, District Chief 1, District Chief 2, Chief 100, Chief 102, Chief 200, Cary EMS52, EMS55, District Chief 5, Six Forks EMS122, EMS124, Wake County MD1 MD2, MD20, Raleigh Fire Department Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 13, Engine 24, Engine 26, Ladder 1, Ladder 4, Rescue 2, Rescue 3, Battalion Chief 3, Car 10 (Division Chief) and Wake County's WC1.

Second Winter Storm Eyes Garner

For the second time in as many weeks, a winter storm is possible for the Garner area.  Currently, the area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 1700 hours today through 1000 hours tomorrow.  As the storm continues to develop, yesterdays forecast of a dusting of snow has increased to 1 to 4 inches. 

Two weeks ago, a Winter Storm Warning fore casted up to a foot of snow for this area. The amounts actually ranged from 3 to 5 inches.  More information on this event can be found at www.wral.com.

2nd Cadet Academy Underway

The 2nd Garner EMS & Rescue Squad Cadet Academy is underway.  New Cadet Members will undergo eight weeks of training before being allowed to function in the field.  The Cadets meet every Wednesday night in the Training Room for classes pertaining to EMS and Rescue Operations. 

Lieutenant Brian Brooks is in charge of the Cadet Program and he is being assisted by the Department Training Officer Nikki Burakowski and EMT-I Roger Hines.  New Cadet Members are: Keith Boyette, Dakotah Davis, Chi rs Edwards, Jonathan Figueroa, Chris Lee, Trey McCoy, Lauren Pierce, Taylor Tollinchi and Chris Whelan.

4-H Club Donates Stuffed Animals to Garner EMS

The 4-H Club contacted several public safety organizations to let them know they collected numerous stuff animals to be placed on emergency vehicles for children.  Division Chief Vance Haywood, Life Member Linda Clayton and EMT's Trevor Jordan and Shannon Casey were on hand to accept the donations.

Garner EMS ended up with close to 1000 animals.  Our intentions are to distribute some of these to other area agencies not in attendance at this event.


 
   
   
Winter Storms Passes Through Garner

The Garner area remained under a Winter Storm Warning from 1800 hours on Friday 1/29/2010 through midnight on Saturday 1/30/2010.  Though the snow accumulations were not what was anticipated, the roads became treacherous quickly.  After the storm passed, the area remained under a Winter Weather Advisory until 12 noon on Monday 2/1/2010 due to icy conditions on the roadways.  Total snow accumulations ranged in this area from 3 - 6 inches and the sleet and ice accumulations were several inches as well.

The Garner EMS & Rescue Squad answered over 50 calls during this time frame and 11 of them were MVC's.  Just prior to the Storm Warning taking effect, the Garner Medical Transport Division answered close to 30 calls on Friday utilizing five BLS ambulances during the daytime hours.

Units staffed during this event included Garner EMS Chief 800, Chief 801, EMS81, EMS82, EMS83, Squad 881, Squad 882 and BLS 871 and 878.


 
   
   
Rand Road School Health Fair
Thursday, January 28, 2010

Members of the Heavy Rescue Division were on hand at the Rand Road School Health Fair demonstrating rescue equipment to the students, families and guests.  Engineers Bellissimo and Sutherland along with Rescue Technician Curfman kept the visitors entertained from 1800 hours through 1930 hours.

Units on scene included Garner EMS Squad 881 and Squad 882.
