Garner Rescue Squad Offering CPR Training

The Garner Rescue Squad is offering an American Heart Association "Friends and Family" CPR Training Course on Saturday, 10/23/2010 at 8:00 am.  This class should last until lunchtime.  It will be held at the Garner Rescue Squad located at 990 Vandora Springs Road in Garner, N.C.  Anyone in the community is invited to attend.  It is the goal of this agency to train as many people as possible in CPR.

Preregistration is required for this class.  This can be accomplished by contacting Assistant Chief Vance Haywood at  919 661-6872.  The cost of this class is $10.00 per person and includes all materials and refreshments.


 
   
   
Enhanced Incident Management Unified Command Course

Chief Frederick completed the Enhanced Incident Management Unified Command Course held last week at the Texas A&M University's Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in College Station, Texas.  This class was a fast paced hands on training program for managing large scale disasters.

There were 47 participants in this class from all across the country.  This class was the first to utilize the new computer software developed on site.  This software allowed the participants to manage an incident "real time" with all the necessary forms, commuincation tools and visuals. 


 
   
   
Raleigh Amphitheatre Fireworks

The Barenaked Ladies Concert and a fireworks display ends a long week of concerts at the downtown Raleigh Amphitheater.  Temperatures near 100 degrees didn't stop concert goers from enjoying a week long line of events.  Shinedown, Gov't Mule, Slightly Stoopid, Chelsea Handler and the Barenaked Ladies all performed at this venue.


 
   
   
Heavy Rescue Division Training

Members of the Garner Rescue Squad participated in vehicle extrication and stabilization training at the scrapyard.  The scenario involved an overturned tractor trailer truck on a small pick up truck.  Members used stabilization and extrication techniques to free a trapped occupant.


 
   
   
MVC with Multiple Persons Pinned

At approximately 1515 hours, the Garner Rescue Squad was dispatched to a MVC at Benson Road and Timber Drive.  Within minutes, additional information was received that there were several subjects pinned in the wreckage.

First arriving units confirmed a two vehicle accident with two occupants of a sports utility vehicle pinned.  Extrication began and within minutes, both patients were removed from the vehicle and transported to WakeMed Hospital with serious injuries.  Two additional patients were also transported to the hospital.

Units on scene included Garner Rescue Squad Chief 861, Squad 881, Wake County EMS 7, EMS 8, EMS 16, EMS 19, Medic 94, District Chief 2 and Garner Fire Department's Engine 1, Engine 3 and Rescue 1.


 
   
   
Garner Rescue at the Raleigh Amphitheatre

The Garner Rescue Squad has been requested to provide on site medical coverage at the Raleigh Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh.  The Garner Rescue Squad will be covering the Live Nation sponsored shows at this new venue.

Tonight's show, Gov't Mule was the first show the squad covered.  Shortly after the concert began, severe thunderstorms rolled through the area and dropped heavy rain over this venue.  The show eventually ended at 2100 hours after it appeared the rain wasn't going to let up.


 
   
   
MVC with Entrapment at White Oak Shopping Center

At approximately 1230 hours, Garner Rescue Squad 881 was dispatched to a MVC with injuries on Shenstone Blvd. in the White Oak Shopping Center.  Garner Police on scene reported the driver of one vehicle was trapped.  The patient was removed from the vehicle and treated by Wake County EMS. 

Units on scene included Garner Rescue Chief 861, Assistant Chief 862, Squad 881, Wake County EMS18 and Garner Fire Department's Engine 1.


 
   
   
Garner Medical Transport Takes Trip to New Jersey

Garner Medical Transport's BLS 874 took a pateint discharged from a local hospital to a medical facility in New Jersey, just across the river from New York City.  Rescue Engineer Bellssimo and EMT Harrison completed this long distance trip without incident.


 
   
   
Phish Concert

The Phish Concert came to the Time Warner Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek.  The Garner Rescue Squad was prepared for an extremely busy evening and fortunately the evening ended with less activity than expected.  By time the concert ended eighteen (18) people were treated by rescue personnel and four (4) were transported to the hospital.


 
   
   
Vehicle Extrication Training

Members of the Heavy Rescue Division conducted several nights of vehicle extrication and stabilization training.  The training was held at Ivey's Towing.  Members sharpened their skills with overturned vehicles.  Engineer McDowell taught these classes.
